Slam poetry is a competition where people read poems without any other assistance like props or music. In a slam poetry competition, once you perform the poetry, you are entitled to a score from 0 to 10. The judges are from the audience and they are themselves chosen randomly.  The scores are decided on your performance and how much you are able to touch the chords with your target audience. There is no specification about the poetry that you can use for the competition. However there are some factors that can affect the quality of your slam poetry. Here are some tips that you can use to write slam poetries.

  1. It is important to write completely original poetry. Since slam poetry is a competition, it is important to use only your own work.
  2. In slam competition, you are only given 3 minutes to perform so make sure to write short poem that can be read within that time frame.
  3. Keep it simple. Practice reading the poem in front of your friends and family to make sure that you do not falter in front of the audience.
  4. Make your poem rhythmic so that it helps you in giving a passionate performance in front of your audience.
  5. You can also submit your poetry in a good platform to start getting feedback from the online audience.
